It was the summer before sophomore year of college when I first saw the trailer for ‘Shaun of the Dead.’ I will selfishly take full credit in being the person to spread the news to my group of friends. We saw it opening weekend and NYC and couldn’t have been happier. We were Wright, Pegg, and Frost hooked. We tracked down the two series of ‘Spaced’ and even the short lived ‘Asylum.’ We were beyond excited for ‘Hot Fuzz’ and now impatiently waiting for news on their upcoming film ‘The World’s End.’ We have some news and the news is great.
First off we have a vague synopsis from IMDB:
“20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again”
The titular “World’s End” is the last bar on the crawl. Pegg and Wright are definitely up to something more here, and basic hints seem to be the friends find themselves wrapped up in the fate of humanity.
Next there is the addition of Rosamond Pike to the Pegg and Frost led cast. Recently she made the huge mistake of co-starring in ‘Wrath of the Titans.’ It’s a shame she seems to have dropped off a bit when she was fantastic as the aloof blonde in ‘An Education.’ Think it’s safe to assume she is either one of the five friends or a love interest of one of them.
The best bit of news is Paddy Considine returning to the “Cornetto Trilogy.” Considine is most recognizable as the reporter from the Bourne series. He’s an amazingly talented actor who’s delivered powerful performances in ‘In America’,’Submarine’, and ‘Dead Man’s Shoes.’ I’d also suggest the phenomenal ‘Tyrannosaur’ which he wrote and directed. He stole many scenes with his comedic turn in ‘Hot Fuzz’ and it his very exciting to hear he’s trying comedy again.
