X-Men: Days of Future Past News

So some relatively interesting news came out of 20th Century Fox camp regarding the sequel to Xmen First Class.

Mark Millar (writer of Kick-Ass and Wanted), has come out to say that the sequel to Xmen set in the past, but dealing with the future, will be very Terminator-like in tone, which should only mean that we are finally going to get a story filled with Sentinels.  This should come as no surprise to anyone that read the original Days of Future Past story.  So this is a good thing.  It seems like Fox, now that Tom Rothman has left the studio is really going to try and focus on the Marvel properties they have and try and follow the Avenger blueprint by creating a cohesive world.  Millar, who will be working for Fox as the Marvel guru, similar to Whedon’s job with Disney, and he basically said that he wants to try and make it so that when we go and see an Xmen film, we don’t notice that it takes place outside of the Marvel Film Universe.  This to me is a step in the right direction, however Fox has a lot of continuity issues to clean up even with the new Xmen franchise as it relates to the former trilogy.

It sounds like Days of Future Past can help with this.  First Class, while excellent in my opinion, further made the Xmen universe convoluted especially when you compare it to Xmen Origins, and then to the first Xmen.  Famke Janssen has already intimated that she might be reprising the Jean Grey character, in The Wolverine, and Patrick Stewart even hinted he might be playing Xavier again, so maybe Days of Future Past will exist to sort of bridge all of the time/character incongruities, so that going forward we can just have normal stories that don’t make our heads hurt.  Maybe this will be like JJ Abrams’ Star Trek.  Or maybe it will just suck.

I don’t know either way, but at least they aren’t pretending like these issues aren’t going to just clean themselves up.  I hope Millar is the right man for the job, because I want to see awesome X-Men movies continue.

Days of Future Prequel Sequel

It has been rumored and now being reported by IGN.com as official from Bryan Singer (producer) that the ‘X-Men First Class’ sequel will be subtitled ‘Days of Future Past.’

This is ballsy and brilliant. Ballsy because it deals with MIND time travel. An older version of Kitty Pryde travels her mind into the present day version. Well past since ‘First Class’ timeline is the 60s, I think. Christ this is confusing already. I’m assuming they will send back the whole Kitty Pryde, or some other character, since mind time travel is weird.

This is smart because it could possibly find a way to change history so the stories of the X-Men movies we know never happen. Also this is our best bet for Sentinels.

AICN Accurate Posts and the Godless Hours Where I Read Them

Last night I could not sleep, so I did what any closeted nerd would do and started reading the comments section of Aint It Cool News.  It’s basically a cesspool where nerds and fanboys bitch about stuff and I love it for that.  I was on the comment page for an article about Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and came across this post by a very smart gentleman who goes by the name of “tophat.” Tophat, in reference to the Xmen movies wrote the following and I have to say I agree:

They’re never going to do time travel in the X-MEN…

…that would be too cool for 20th Century Fox to handle. Think about it, on July 18, 2014 we will have been stuck with this version of X-Men for FOURTEEN YEARS. Fox has had 14 years to get the X-Men right and have dropped the ball every-single-time. And, before any of you try to make excuses for these movies let me ask you this: No matter how much you might like certain moments, characters, scenes, etc. from these films, have they really been as successful adaptations as the Marvel Avenger movies? No. The answer is, NO. In my opinion thay haven’t even MADE a real X-Men movie yet. Just a bunch of movies about Eric, Charles, and Logan. It would have been like Marvel spending fourteen years making SHIELD movies where the Avengers pop in every once in a while as guest appearances. Fourteen-Fucking-Years”
