I buy comics every Wednesday. A movie is released based on a comic book practically every month. 80% of these films piss me off. 19% entertain me. 1% make me really happy.
Each Wednesday here at Movie Movie, I’ll be talking about a book I’m buying that could be a movie.
Takio is an all-ages read that was originally released as a graphic novel last year. It is the story of 2 sisters, Taki and Olivia who gain super-powers. A new ongoing series starts this week.
Superhero girls.
The young female market has been untapped by the superhero film. Sure young girls could have loved ‘The Avengers’, but I don’t think Black Widow is exactly what parents were looking for in a strong female lead.
Also the girls are adopted and multi-racial.
ADOPTED MULTI RACIAL YOUNG FEMALE SUPERHEROES!
If Takio could be marketed on it’s action, it could definitely have a ton of appeal to young boys as well. A lot of older movie fans enjoy the ‘Spy Kids’ movies, so if done well there is definitely a hit here. Mostly done well means no talking animals. For me, I lose any interest in a kids film if there are talking animals in the trailer.
Hit Girl was a bad ass as well.
Very much not for children though
Maybe not your children…
What’s wrong with talking animals? Homeward Bound! Babe! Milo and Otis (minus the cat murder)!
The most recent film in your list is from 1995. I’m referencing G-Force, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and the like.
Touche.
