Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) is stepping in joining Pierce Bronson, Imogen Poots, and Toni Collette in the upcoming adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel ‘A Long Way Down.’ Emile Hirsch was originally cast but is leaving the project because Hirsch clearly has no clue what to do with his career.
I’ve read the book and enjoyed it greatly. It revolves around a popular suicide spot in London and four strangers who coincidentally show up on the same night to end their lives. The novel tells their stories as well as how they manipulate their story to gain fame.
Paul needs his first big “post” Breaking Bad role and I think this is a good one. He’s definitely not a leading man. There is no need to try and shove him in an action movie or a romantic comedy. As part of a dramatic ensemble he has the chance to shine through with his skills as an actor. Look to him to play a trouble young man for ever.
I’d agree that Hirsch has no idea what to do with his career, but then I saw Killer Joe, and he was awesome. He does need more guidance however with picking roles though I think. He shouldn’t be taking 7th billing roles in Savages
