We talked a few months ago about David Slade’s involvement in the ‘Daredevil’ reboot. Well he’s gone. Fox is now talking to Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team) to take over it and do a “Frank Miller-esque, 70s Thriller.
The time is running out for Fox to make a film before the rights revert back to Marvel. They have approached Marvel about an extension and Marvel has proved again that they are smarter than everyone.
Marvel could easily say no and let the clock run out. Instead they have opened negotiations, what they want in return is Galactus and The Silver Surfer. Marvel is saying with this that Daredevil doesn’t really fit into their cinematic plans, which is completely true, but they want cosmic. Thanos is set for the big bad of the next Avengers film and you have to go bigger after that. There’s nothing bigger than Galactus.
Marvel is the best.
*UPDATE*
It is being reported that Fox will not be seeking to make a deal with Marvel. This has to be because every comic/movie news source said Marvel was definitely getting the better of this deal.
Fox is willing to air the gamble that may lead to DD returning to Marvel unless a movie begins production by October.
I don’t see a Marvel produced DD happening until at least 2014 with their already busy schedule. Perhaps at least a cameo would be fun. Another film casually mentioning the man without fear or seeking the advice of Murdock and Nelson Attorneys at Law.
