Red Dawn Remake Trailer Here!

This movie almost seems like it would be a Fake Movie Friday submission but it’s not.

Red Dawn has been remade.  The original films bad guys were evil soviets.  The remake was originally going to have the chinese as the villains, but then realized we don’t have beef with them, nor do we want it, so the asians eyes were digitally altered to be North Korean.  Is that racist? Sure, but who cares right?

Anyway this film was made two years ago but when MGM fell onto hard times, this got shelved.  This is probably a good thing because now Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson are household names and stars of two of the highest grossing films of the year with huge fanbases.  I see this movie doing better than it should because of that.

On The Road Trailer

My favorite part about this trailer is how little they show of Kristen Stewart. It was really dumb casting on their part if they want intelligent people to take this movie seriously. Its an incredibly important book and she’s the kind of person that would make someone dismiss this film solely looking at the poster. Showing a lot of Viggo Mortensen and Terrance Howard is a much better idea.

Brad Pitt in New Orleans Killing People

Brad Pitt’s a good actor, New Orleans is my favorite city, and Killing People is something I love seeing in my films.  So watching the trailer for Killing Them Softly, I am convinced this is going to be a great film.  It is directed by Andrew Dominik, who directed the brilliant, albeit long The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

I don’t know why The Weinstein Company swapped release dates with this and Tthe Master between September and October, but even if The Master is a lock for best picture nods, I think Killing Them Softly can also be a dark horse in the race.  Brad Pitt is an oscar favorite, though he hasn’t won, and the film has such a wealth of talent in it between Richard Jenkins, and James Gandofini etc, and Dominik.  I think this can break through.

But look at the trailer for yourself and be the judge:

The Paperboy & Zac Efron’s Legitmacy

The Paperboy trailer premiered this week and it looks very interesting.  It’s Lee Daniels latest film.  You might remember him from the Depress-O-Fest that was Precious based on the novel Push, by Sapphire.  It was raw, pulpy, depressing, but excellent.  With a cast of Matthew McConaughey, who is having a resurgent year, Nicole Kidman, David Oyelewo, and John Cusack, it looks like it could be very good.  Zac Efron appears to be at the center of the film and I think this is a good role for him to take.  He’s never been a necessarily good actor, but I think a good way to start is by surrounding yourself with better talent in front of and behind the camera.

SkyFalling

This trailer is balls. M is writing an obituary for Bond? Then we see her order his death? The tired plot device of losing agents real names from ‘Mission Impossible’ (1996) is used? Bond returns and is taunted by a somehow even more ridiculous looking Javier Bardem. We have the introduction of Q and a gun that only works for Bond! Remember when this idea was cool?

Cloud Atlas Trailer

A few years back I randomly bought a book entitled “Ghostwritten” by David Mitchell. A collection of loosely connected stories that I quite enjoyed. I returned to find more by Mitchell and was upon walking into the bookstore was attacked by a display of ‘Cloud Atlas’ books. Told in a similar style I’ve been wanting to read it but it’s popularity has kept it’s price high and I need that money to go see things like ‘Step-up Revolution.’

The Master’s Full Trailer Is…

Incredible.  The first two teasers of this Scientology-based film from P.T. Anderson have piqued my interest, but now I’m fully invested.  Thank god I live in NY as I imagine this will be getting a limited release.  I can almost assure you that either Philip Seymour Hoffman or Joaquin Phoenix will be walking away with an Academy Award.

I swear this is the last trailer I post today.

Superman, Meet Terrence Malick!

Zack Snyder’s first crack at bringing us a Superman film that isn’t dreadfully boring is only a year away and with The Dark Knight Rises coming out this past weekend, most theaters got a print of this teaser.  There are two versions with different voiceovers; one being Supermans earthly father played by Kevin Costner, and the other voiced by his kryptonian father played by Russell Crowe.

I think that this might be the film to transition Snyder from substance over style, and with Christopher Nolan producing, maybe he can help bring the best tendencies out of Snyder.  Already this trailer evokes an incredibly pastoral sensibility, different in tone to any of the previous Superman films.  I think that if Snyder can channel a bit more of the Malick-like nature this trailer seems to hint at, but keep the action kinetic and make Superman do more than be the world’s greatest outfielder, he could be on to something.

Man of Steel comes out next summer, but this trailer will hold you over.  I’m excited.
